What are the responsibilities of the State Board of Education? (SBOE)
- Oversight, along with the Texas Commissioner of Education, of all Texas public schools.
- Specific SBOE duties in three areas—
- Management of the Permanent School Fund, established to fund textbooks and provide bond guarantee back-up to school districts floating bond issues
- Establishment of academic curriculum standards for all public schools
- Approval of textbooks to be used in all public schools
Where is District 3, State Board of Education?
- District 3 comprises roughly the southern half of Bexar County, the northwestern portion of Hidalgo County, and 11 whole counties in between—Atascosa, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Frio, Jim Wells, Karnes, Live Oak, McMullen, Medina and Wilson.
